SCBC’s Instrumental Music Tuition Program offers students from Pre-Primary to Year 12 the opportunity to develop their musical skills through high-quality instrumental and vocal tuition. Aligned with our Specialist Music Programs, students can enrol in lessons in the following areas:
- Piano
- Bass Guitar
- Electric Guitar
- Acoustic Guitar
- Drum Set
- Voice
- Ukulele
Lessons are delivered by experienced, industry-based tutors who are passionate about inspiring young musicians. Tuition is tailored to each student’s age, experience and stage of development, helping them build strong musical foundations while growing in confidence, creativity and technical skill.
Lesson Structure
Pre-Primary:
Students may enrol in Paired Piano lessons, providing a fun and supportive introduction to music through the development of foundational keyboard and musicianship skills.
Years 1-2:
Students may enrol in Paired Piano lessons or Group Ukulele lessons, developing foundational musical skills in an engaging and collaborative learning environment.
Years 3-4:
Students may enrol in Piano, Drum Set, Voice, Ukulele or Classical Guitar. Piano, Drum Set and Voice are delivered through individual tuition, while Ukulele and Classical Guitar are delivered in group classes.
Years 5-6:
Students may enrol in Piano, Drum Set, Voice, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar or Bass Guitar. Piano, Drum Set and Voice are delivered through individual tuition. Guitar students may choose either Paired Classical Guitar tuition or Individual Guitar tuition in Acoustic, Electric or Bass Guitar.
Years 7-12:
Students may enrol in Piano, Drum Set, Voice, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar or Bass Guitar, with all tuition delivered on an individual basis.

SCBC’s Contemporary Band & Ensemble Program provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with fellow musicians, develop their performance skills, and experience the excitement of making music together. Rehearsals commence in Week 2 of Term 1 and run throughout the school year, preparing students for major showcase events such as Amplify: Live! as well as a range of College and community performances.
Contemporary Bands are open to students in Years 7-12 and focus on the study and performance of contemporary music, with strong connections to our Vocal Academy and Instrumental Music Tuition programs. Rehearsals are led by experienced music tutors and professional musicians and are held one afternoon each week from 3:10 pm to 4:10 pm.
For students in Years 5-6, the Future Ready Music Program provides ensemble-based learning and performance opportunities, serving as a valuable pathway into Contemporary Bands in secondary school.
From 2027, secondary students receiving Drum Set tuition will also have the opportunity to audition for the SCBC Percussion Ensemble, providing an additional avenue for collaborative music-making, musicianship development, and performance.
Students in the Contemporary Band & Ensemble Program receive:
- Weekly one-hour rehearsals and specialised instruction.
- Individual performance coaching and ensemble-specific feedback.
- Performance opportunities throughout the year.
- Showcase performances at the College and within the wider community.
Auditions for Contemporary Bands are held during Term 4 of the previous year. Please register an Expression of Interest via the form below. Audition requirements will be communicated to all interested students.
